Diary

The following are diary entries from my own personal experiences with BJJ and training (newest entries will be on top)…

Tuesday 21st July 2020

Well it has been 13 weeks since I started all this and I am happy to say the results are getting better…

Monday 6th July 2020

Apologies for the lack of updates but the real world is slowly creeping back in! I have been managing to maintain what I have been doing previously although on occasions I have switched out a DDP Yoga for a second core session as I felt at the time that it would push me more…

As Week 9 roles in I feel it is time to move up the weights a bit and add on the reps for those weights. I have come to that conclusion based on the fact that some of the lifts have become a lot easier and the struggles they once were are not in the past…

With normality starting to return albeit in small ways the time I have had to dedicate to my work out plan is starting to decrease…

Sunday 7th June 2020

So after another week I figured it was time to check in. Weight has gone done slightly and tone has gone up in some areas. Still a long way to go yet so further adjustments have been made.

The morning stretch and lower back stretch has now been dropped and incorporated into the core work out. This was mainly a practicality issue especially with time not being a resource with the lockdown ending. I have also now added a neck work out which focuses on the strength and tendons of the neck. I also made a few tweaks to the kettles.

Let’s see what happens!

Sunday 31st May 2020

This week’s plan started well but I tweaked my back Monday but powered on through it. This resulted in me having to stop mid-way through the kettles on Tuesday. Wednesday then became a total rest day to before Thursday and Friday became an added mash up of what I should have been doing that day plus what I felt I missed on Wednesday.

I also spent the week evaluating just what I thought was working and what I was just going through the motions with. When planning Week 6 some parts have been dropped due to increased intensity in over areas. It is important to note I have not dropped anything that is difficult for me, more like do I need a second morning stretch session when I am doing pretty similar to a higher intensity in my morning core work out.

Similarly I have also combined the kettles now into a more solid work out. Some reps/weights have been adjusted but again I have focused on the techniques I feel are benefiting me and my body. I also wanted to up the intensity and make the most of the time I have as lockdown is possibly coming to an end next week and going back to work is looming! Each kettle session will alternate from light-to-heavy and heavy-to-light.

So as of this Monday…

Saturday 23rd May 2020

This week’s plan has worked really well and killed me in the right areas. Flexibility and tendon strength is definitely improving. A few modifications were made as the week progressed (noted below) and I am now revising the plan once again for the next week. I shall post that one tomorrow when it is sorted.

It is very important that you modify and adjust your plans and not just do the same things all the time. You know how your body is reacting to what you are doing so you must adjust accordingly. If something is too hard change it! – it something is too easy change it! The important thing is to not fret about it or just go on cruise control through it. That will not help you. It is better to get more reps at a lower weight than injure yourself trying to something on a heavier weight. The same goes for yoga and stretching – adjust to suit your needs. That is how you will benefit. Push yourself – don’t cripple yourself.

A new week means new modifications to the Lockdown work out plan.

Let’s see what it brings!

Saturday 16th May 2020

With lockdown being what it is here in the UK mat time has been minimal. Instead I have now spent three weeks on the DDP Yoga plan and it has definitely helped with my strength and overall fitness. Whilst weight loss has not been massive, toning has. Also can definitely see improvements in my movement and tendon strength in my arms and shoulders.

What is everyone else doing to stay in shape?
